Advancing Educational Renewal Project (AER Project)

The objective of this project is to lay the foundation towards an innovative curriculum renewal model that crosses the boundaries of graduate programs and enhances the graduate learning experience in the FoM. We envision a reimagining of the delivery of some coursework through a centralized “core curriculum” model that strengthens the overall student experience by enhancing interdisciplinary learning, giving more flexibility to learners, and creating a more fluid curriculum that can react faster and more efficiently to changing societal and career needs. To best operationalize this, we will achieve three specific objectives during this current project:

  • Create a curriculum map that details FoM courses currently offered to research graduate students
  • Conduct a needs assessment through engagement of students, alumni, and faculty in the FoM, as well as stakeholders representing a variety of career pathways for graduates, to determine the learning expectations and core competencies required of our graduates
  • Identify topic areas from Objective #2 that have either large redundancy amongst programs, or are not offered at all, and as such would be clear candidates for delivery on a faculty-wide level.

The first stage of this project is completed. Please see here for a brief summary.
