The Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Course is mandatory for all biomedical research graduate students in the Faculty of Medicine who began their studies on or after January 2013.
The RCR course is offered three times in an academic year and consists of two live virtual sessions and an online component to be completed between the two virtual sessions. It is strongly recommended that students take the RCR course during their first year of studies at FoM.

Dr. Roskelley is a professor in the Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences and the School of Biomedical Engineering. He previously served as interim Co-Head of the department from 2010 to 2012, and as the Faculty’s interim Associate Dean, Graduate and Postdoctoral Education in 2022.
Dr. Roskelley’s research centers on metastatic cancer progression, with a focus on understanding and developing tools to block changes in cell adhesion that allow breast and ovarian cancers to progress and spread. Over the course of his career, he has served local, regional and national cancer research communities, including as Chair of the Canadian Cancer Society’s Research Advisory Committee. Dr. Roskelley has been honoured as a Distinguished University Scholar and Killam Teaching Award recipient in recognition of his exceptional contributions to research and education.

Course details
The RCR course includes two 2-hour live sessions on Zoom along with an online CITI module. Participants are also provided with the engaging case studies for the class discussions during break out rooms where discussions are facilitated by the FoM postdoctoral fellows. Upon completing all the course requirements, participants receive a completion certificate.
