UBC Faculty of Medicine Clinician Investigator Scholarship

A generous philanthropic gift made in 2017 established the UBC Faculty of Medicine Clinician Investigator Scholarship to create more opportunities for UBC’s physicians-in-training to pursue graduate studies. The scholarship will be available to students entering UBC’s MD/PhD program and residents entering UBC’s Clinician Investigator Program.

The UBC Faculty of Medicine Clinician Investigator Scholarship covers the entire cost of the MD/PhD student’s tuition and stipend or the resident’s salary and benefits. It is paid out at set intervals. MD/PhD students will be supported for six years of the combined program and Clinician Investigator Program scholars will be supported while they are enrolled in graduate training. At least two scholarships will be awarded each year, beginning with MD/PhD students and residents beginning their programs in 2018.

The scholarship is available to students and residents who meet the following criteria:

  • A student entering UBC’s MD/PhD program OR a medical resident training at UBC who received their MD at a Canadian university
  • A Canadian citizen OR permanent resident living in BC

Students and residents who receive the UBC Faculty of Medicine Clinician Investigator Scholarship must complete their graduate work at UBC. The recipient must pursue research in biomedical or biological sciences or bioengineering through the Faculty of Medicine’s graduate programs, resulting in an MSc, PhD or MD/PhD.

Students and residents will automatically be considered for this scholarship upon their application to the UBC MD/PhD or Clinician Investigator program. No additional application is required.
